NLP Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for an NLP Engineer with two to three years of experience to build language-based features for client products in Pune, from search and classification through to LLM-backed assistants. You will own the NLP components of a project end to end — model or prompt design, evaluation, and the pipeline that gets it into production — and be expected to know when a large language model is the right tool and when a smaller, cheaper model is the better call.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build NLP features including classification, extraction, summarisation, and retrieval
• Build applications on top of large language models, including prompt design, retrieval-augmented generation, and evaluation
• Fine-tune or adapt language models for specific client use cases where appropriate
• Build evaluation pipelines that measure quality on real examples, not just spot checks
• Own the trade-off between model capability, latency, and cost, and make an explicit recommendation
• Integrate NLP components into backend services with proper error handling for model failures
• Monitor deployed language features for quality regressions and drift
• Keep track of the fast-moving LLM and NLP tooling landscape and bring back what is actually useful
• Write clear documentation of prompts, model choices, and evaluation results
• Mentor junior engineers working on NLP or LLM-adjacent tasks

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, or a related field
• 2-3 years of experience working on NLP or language model applications
• Strong Python and experience with an NLP or deep learning framework
• Practical experience building applications with large language models, including prompting and RAG patterns
• Understanding of core NLP techniques: tokenisation, embeddings, and classic text classification
• Experience evaluating language model output quality with defined metrics, not just judgement calls
• Familiarity with vector search or embedding-based retrieval
• Ability to explain to a non-technical client why a language feature behaves the way it does
• Experience with API integration and handling the failure modes specific to hosted LLMs
