Lead Solution Architect

About the Role

Set the technical direction for large client engagements, typically Java and AWS platforms serving millions of requests a day. You will produce architecture decisions, size infrastructure, review designs from delivery teams, and defend estimates in front of client CTOs. Roughly half the week sits with engineers; the rest goes to proposals, migration planning, and risk reviews.

Key Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end architecture for client platforms, from data stores to deployment topology
• Write architecture decision records explaining the trade-offs and the option chosen
• Review designs from delivery teams and flag scalability or security concerns early
• Size AWS infrastructure and produce cost estimates that hold up during delivery
• Support pre-sales by shaping technical proposals and presenting them to client stakeholders
• Plan migrations from legacy systems, sequencing work to avoid long outages

Requirements

• Ten or more years in software engineering, with at least three architecting systems
• Deep Java experience plus practical AWS design across compute, storage, and networking
• Track record designing systems handling high traffic with measurable latency requirements
• Strong grasp of CI/CD, containerisation, and observability in production environments
• Able to explain technical trade-offs clearly to non-technical client executives
• Experience leading engineering teams technically without holding formal line management authority
